AAP suspends all programs, membership drive in Punjab in view of Coronavirus

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, has put on hold its ongoing membership drive through a ‘missed call’ in view of the spread of carona virus across the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, state president and Member of Parliament (MP) from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann said that the proposed membership drive, which went on to a vigorous start in the state post the magnificent Delhi mandate, stood cancelled with immediate effect.

Mann said the decision to put on hold the party activity, besides membership drive, door-to-door contact programme, media interactions, following the spread of pandemic corona virus wreaking havoc on human lives till the next announcement. Mann said that the decision was taken after consultation with the Delhi leadership.

Speaking on the occasion, newly-appointed in charge of Punjab affairs of the party and Tilak Nagar (Delhi) legislator, Jarnail Singh, said the decision to put on hold the ongoing campaign and other programmes of the party involving huge gatherings amid the spread of Covid-19 epidemic and the union and state governments’ advisories to check the spread of the deadly virus.

He also exhorted the party cadres and workers engaged in the campaign to carry on the party-related activity through social media platforms while spreading the message among the countrymen to stay away from the deadly virus by observing the essential ‘does and don’ts’. He also stressed the need for shunning rumour-mongering over the epidemic.

Mann said “The ongoing campaign, including membership drive, media interactions, door-to-door campaign and mass joining by leaders of other political parties have been kept in abeyance in view of the corona virus indefinitely”

Mann had a piece of precious advise for those coming from foreign lands to go for spot check up for corona virus so that timely treatment could be started, if tested positive, saying that some 355 people coming from foreign countries had gone missing without undergoing proper check up.

He added that more people were trapped in other countries and efforts were on to bring them home safe, saying he would raise the issue of their release in the ongoing session of Parliament.
