Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Captain govt had finally conceded to the shoddy distribution of rations by Punjab government to the needy families during the Corona virus epidemic. Cheema said the govt had admitted in principal irregularities in the distribution of ration to the poor by appointing top officials of the Food and Supplies Department to investigate into the matter, had put a stamp authenticity on the Aam Aadmi Party’s standpoint on the allegations.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Saturday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the AAP had been constantly raising its voice against the scams from time to time. The party had even staged protests at the district level and handed over memorandums to the government through the Deputy Commissioners.
Cheema said that bowing down to the pressure of the AAP and the people of the state, the Captain government had started investigating the bias into the distribution of ration during the corona-induced lockdown, but had smartly handed over the investigation to the Food Supply Department, which was the mother of all scams.
The LoP said that the Aam Aadmi Party had out rightly rejected the probe to be conducted by officials of the Food and Supplies Department, questioning “How can departmental officials, who are themselves responsible for the distribution and subsequent misappropriation of rations, properly investigate against themselves?” He demanded that the matter be investigated under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge to bring those behind the scam to justice”.
Cheema said that the departmental inquiry committees set up by the government had virtually proved to be clean chit committees, doling out clean chits to the guilty Congress leaders, corrupt officials and high and mighty brokers, like the Badals, and other high and mighty.
Cheema threatened that if the Captain government failed to get the matter investigated under the watch of a sitting High Court judge, the AAP if succeeded in forming the government in 2022, would get these scams investigated on a priority basis.
