AAP forms ‘Bijli Morcha’ teams against high Power Tariff in Punjab

Ropar, July 10, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the ongoing ‘Bijli Morcha’ held a meeting here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, state core committee chief Principal Budhram, state coordinator of ‘Bijli Morcha’, Meet Hayer, state treasurer Sukhwinder Sukhi’ and Party’s Lok Sabha candidate Narinder Singh Shergill, Jai Singh Rori (MLA) in the Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency here on Wednesday, which was attended by among others, district presidents and halqa in charges.

Addressing party leaders on the occasion, Cheema said that the people in Punjab were paying high power tariff when compared to other states of the country, stating both the erstwhile Badal govt and now the ruling Captain Amarinde Singh Govt were responsible for the sorry state of affairs.

Accusing the former Badal government, especially the then Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal for signing the anti-state contracts with private thermal plant owners by winding up the government thermal plants at Bathinda and Ropar generating sufficient power, making the people to bear the brunt.

Principal Buddhram on the occasion said that the state was battling the menace of drugs, corruption, mafia rule and serious farm and water crisis, saying the expensive electricity was driving a big hole in everybody’s pocket, be it the rich or the poor.

Meet Hayer said the until or unless the PPAs signed between the former Badal govt and the private thermal plants were not scrapped there was no way the people would heave a sigh of relief from paying through nose.

He alleged that the Captain Amarinder Singh Government was, like the Badal govt, dragging its feet on scrapping the agreements as it was pocketing huge’ commission’ from the private power players.

He said that AAP’s ‘Bijli Morcha’ would force the Congress government in the state to scrap all the agreements by mobilizing the people of the state or throwing them out of power in the 2022 assembly elections and replicate the Delhi model of providing cheaper electricity to all categories of consumers by scrapping the power agreements.
