AAP extends legal aid to aggrieved farmers against BJP leaders for defamatory remarks: Raghav Chadha

Chandigarh / Moga, January 2, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has extended legal assistance to the aggrieved farmers, who want to move courts against the BJP leaders for their defamatory remarks against them.

AAP Punjab co-incharge and MLA from Delhi, Raghav Chadha, who was on a two-day Punjab tour, said that some farmers had decided to seek justice after relentless verbal abuse at the hands of BJP leaders, and with the help of the Aam Aadmi Party, notices were issued to Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Gujarat Deputy CM Nitin Patel and BJP’s National General Secretary, Ram Madhav.

Addressing the mediapersons during a press conference in Moga, on Saturday, Chadha said that this was the farmer who had given his blood, his sweat, his entire life to tilling his land. “It is because of the sacrifices made by a farmer and his family that food reaches our homes, our plates, and we are able to eat to our heart’s content. If someone abuses an honest farmer, it is similar to that of abusing Mother India,” he added.

Chadha said that the farmers, in the truest form were sons of the soil and the Aam Aadmi Party, which governs the national capital region, was working as a ‘sevadar’ to provide facilities to the benefactors of the country during the agitation.

He further said that the farmers had been requesting the Modi-led central government to listen to them, but in turn were only abused. “BJP leaders have at different times described the farmers as terrorists, anti-nationals, goondas, dalaals, agents of Pakistan and China.

Does our farmer look like a terrorist? I would like to tell the BJP that our farmers have had enough. They are done with being maligned and abused. They now want to knock at the doors of justice, and we truly believe that victory would be theirs,” said Chadha.

He said it was unfortunate that the ‘annadatas’ who fed people of the country was fighting for their survival, with mothers, elders and small children, who had been in the severe cold on the Delhi borders for over last one month; while the ruthlessly insensitive Modi-led central government was unmoved by the pitiable plight of the farming fraternity.

“It is evident that the entire BJP is categorically and strategically working to destroy and discredit the farmers’ movement with their relentless abuse,” he added. He said that the false and frivolous propaganda against the farmers was unbecoming on the part of those behind the propaganda.

Chadha further said that the aggrieved farmers who reached out to the Aam Aadmi Party, told as to how relentless efforts were made to tarnish them and their honest movement. “AAP vows to stand with the farmers of this country in their fight till the BJP leaders are punished. Right from filing a case, to fighting in court, the party will work with the farmers and for the farmers, helping them every step of the way,” he said.

Chadha said that over 20 BJP leaders including Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Giriraj Singh, MP Manoj Tiwari, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP’s National General Secretary Ram Madhav and several others, had allegedly used unparliamentary language and hurled filthy abuses at the farmers.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, a farmer from Amritsar, had sent a legal notice to Union Minister Giriraj Singh, seeking an unconditional apology for his defamatory and derogatory remarks made on December 12. The minister had stated that the farmers were misled and that “foreign forces had entered the farmers’ movement, and posters of Khalistan and Sharjeel Imam were being put up.”

Similarly on December 17, Gujarat’s deputy CM Nitin Patel had said that in the name of farmers, anti-national elements, terrorists, Khalistanis, Communists and pro-China people had sneaked into the agitation.

Taking objection to such accusations, Ramneek Singh Randhawa from Jalandhar had issued a notice to Patel, seeking apology and unambiguous withdrawal of the derogatory statements. Another farmer Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu aka Mohinder Singh Sidhu from Sangrur, had also filed a defamation case against BJP’s National General Secretary, Ram Madhav for his statement that the farmer protests were being funded by Khalistanis.

Meanwhile several AAP leaders including, former Faridkot MP Prof Sadhu Singh, MLAs Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Baljinder Kaur, Principal Budhram, Kulwant Pandori, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Master Baldev Singh, Moga district president Harmanjeet Singh, district secretary Deepak, district media incharge Aman Rakhra, district treasurer Tejinder Brar, organiser Avtar Bunty, Bir Singh, Naseeb Bawa, Navdeep Sangha, Ajay Sharma, Amritpal Sidhu, Sanjeev Kochhar, Ajmer Kalra, Manpreet Rinku, Vikram Ghati, Goldie, among other party workers were also present on the occasion.
