AAP demands immediate restoration of Guru Ravi Das temple, castigates Congress, BJP-SAD governments

Chandigarh, August 23, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) law makers from Punjab came heavily upon the Modi-led union government for the demolition of the more than 5-century old Sri Guru Ravidas temple at Tuglaqabad in Delhi by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which is under its direct control, and have reiterated their demand for immediate restoration of the historic temple to its old glory. They also welcomed the decision of the Delhi government led by Arvind Kejriwal for adopting a resolution in this regard.

At a meet-the-press program jointly addressed in Chandigarh on Friday by Punjab SC wing president, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, co-president SC wing, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Punjab NRI wing president, Jai Krishan Rori and Punjab Kisan wing president, Kultar Singh Sandhwan (All MLAs), said PM Narendra Modi should take a cue from the generosity of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for adopting a resolution for the reconstruction of the temple, so as to assuage the hurt sentiment of teeming millions of Sant Ravidas’s followers and others across the world

The AAP leaders further added that the Arwind Kejriwal government had, in the resolution adopted at a special session, had appealed to union Modi-led BJP government at the centre, saying if it managed to restore the 4 acres of temple land from the DDA for the reconstruction of the temple at the same place, his government would not only bear the total construction cost of the temple but also turn 100 acres of land into greenbelt by planting saplings all around.

On the occasion, Manjit Singh Bilaspur said that the AAP had taken up the issue of demolition of the temple with all seriousness it merited. Keeping this in view, the cabinet rank minister in Delhi government, Rajinder Pal Gautam and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, had broached the issue promptly by writing to the prime minister Narendra Modi urging him to intervene.

The AAP leaders further informed that a delegation of law makers from Punjab led by LoP Harpal Singh Cheema had met Delhi Chief Minister urging for holding a special session on the issue which was held immediately they met. Expressing their gratitude to Kejriwal, AAP MLAs said other state Assemblies, including Punjab, should follow suit and adopt such resolutions to mount pressure on the Modi government.

Kulwant Singh Pandori in his address said the Narendra Modi government had acted in the manner as the then Rajiv Gandhi government in 1986 had ordered acquisition of the temple land by DDA by order demolition of the historic shrine dating back to the 16th century citing apex court’s order.

He said the government could make amends for the Himalayan blunder it had committed by raising it at the same place, stating that the government should convene special session of Parliament and a pass an ordinance in this regard.

Taking a swipe at union leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Pandori said why she was keeping mum over the issue when the entire country and the community were on the boil following demolition of the temple. He added that the sacrilegious act had brought forth the anti-dalit face of the SAD-BJP government at the centre.

Applauding the Delhi government, the AAP leader said that by bringing out the historic resolution, Arvind Kejriwal government had not only paid rich tributes to the great saint but had also tamed the vilification and baseless campaign mounted against the Kejriwal government into the matter by the who’s who of the Congress, Badals, BSP and BJP. Core committee member and state media in charge Manjit Singh Sidhu was also present on the occasion.
