71979 candidates secure Job Offers in 5th Mega Job fair, Capt Amarinder congratulates successful candidates

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has congratulated the 71,979 youth who have so far received job offers at the ongoing 5th Mega Job Fair, and reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring employment opportunities for all under its flagship ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ scheme.

Another 21429 youth have been identified for self-employment opportunities, and another 4989 youngsters for the Skill Training programme, at the Mega Job Fair, which has 2.10 lac jobs on offer. The Fair is being held across more than 100 venues till September 30, as per the directives of the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister would be personally handing over appointment letters to successful candidates of the 5th Mega Job Fair at Chamkaur Sahib in Ropar district on October 5.

Captain Amarinder, who has been personally overseeing the progress of these job fairs, expressed satisfaction at their success and said his government would continue with its efforts to ensure employment for all. He recalled that more than 55000 jobs were earlier given to unemployed youth during various job fairs held across the state in February 2019.

According to a spokesperson of the Employment Generation Department, the 5th Mega Job Fair kicked off on September 9 and had received massive response, with the participation of 112080 candidates till date. The packages offered to the students ranges upto Rs. 10 lakh per annum, the spokesperson further said, adding that the number of applications being received by the department was swelling on a daily basis.

Of the selected candidates, 9138 candidates are from Mohali, followed by 5389 from Jalandhar, another 5235 have been chosen from Sangrur, and 4931 from Ludhiana, with 3657 from Bathinda. As many as 3334 candidates have been selected from Hoshiarpur, followed by 3231 from Gurdaspur, with Patiala and Mansa at 3978 and 3018 respectively. Barnala had 2850 candidates followed by Tarn Taran (2808), Ferozpur (2708), SBS Nagar (2364), and Amritsar (2054).

Of the self-employment ventures identified, 3790 were from Kapurthala, 1330 from Fazilka district and 1353 from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. From those selected for skill training, 794 were from Kapurthala, 410 from Fazilka, 355 from Jalandhar, with 324 from Mohali and 414 from Sangrur, followed by Gurdaspur (286), and Ludhiana (258).

The Punjab Government had launched “Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission” to enable every unemployed youth with employment (self or wage) as per his/her eligibility. The programme also involves a dedicated component to skill the unskilled, in order to make them employable.

Concerted efforts by the Department of Employment Generation & Training has so far resulted in facilitating unemployed youth in getting self or wage employment at the rate of more than a 1000 employments/day. This includes liaising with the banks for arranging loans to fund their self-employed ventures. The District Bureaus of Employment and Enterprises (DBEEs) in all districts have become the nodal centres for the job seekers.
