6th Zonal Youth Festival ‘Maan Watna Da’ begins on a colourful note at MRSPTU

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) Bathinda’s 6th Inter-Zonal Youth Festival-2021 titled as “Maan Watna Da” aimed to promote talent and culture started amidst much fanfare at the university campus here on Thursday.

With the theme “Mann Watna Da” which underlines the importance of proud and love for motherland was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister, Technical Education & Industrial training, Employment Generation & Training, Horticulture, Soil & Water Conservation, Punjab, Sardar Rana Gurjeet Singh in the august presence of university Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bathinda, Executive Director, Dr. D.K. Singh, Bathinda Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Arvind Pal Singh Sandhu, SSP Shri Ajay Maluja and diginatries at the main Campus.

Despite a busy schedule, Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Sardar Manpreet Singh Badal also paid a short visit to the university youth festival.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Rana Gurjit Singh said quality technical education is the need of the hour and Scientific and innovative aptitude should be inculcated among students and teachers to boost the research to solve the problems of the people at the bottom of the pyramid.

The Minister pointed out that Punjab being an agrarian state, there is an urgent need to innovate in agro based industry and make agro-business sustainable. While emphasizing on innovations on a mass scale and focusing on quality ensuring reliability and adaptability, the Minister said, “Be it the technology industry or the agricultural sector, innovations are happening in all sectors today. Our actions today will shape our future tomorrow,” .

While stressing on the need based education and demand oriented skill courses, the Minister called upon the faculty and students of the MRSPTU to work in a team spirit to focus on developing innovative solutions to help people of the region learn better ways of running their farms, small businesses, small scale industry, other community ventures in predominantly rural area, besides finding solutions to the climate change, environmental issues and specific problems like saving natural resources, water scarcity and waste management, clean energy, post-disaster management, solar power and maintaining groundwater levels, and concentrating on areas in which Punjab has the potential to become a leader.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu said the youth festival is a unique platform for young talent and a celebration of youthful creativity and innovation. He motivated the students to participate in all the fields to become holistic personalities, build self-esteem and confidence of the youth. Their creativity is developed and honed in these competitions, he added.

Prof Sidhu said the youth festival could play a pivotal role in grooming youth for various activities in the arena of music, dance, theatre and others at National and international arena. The abundant energy of the youth needed to be harnessed for the betterment of the country, for which such youth festivals could play an important role. He also highlighted the achievements of the university in research and innovation, besides highlighting the role of Science and Engineering in shaping the world.

AIIMS, Executive Director, Dr. D.K. Singh said that the youngsters were blessed with several qualities and one of them was that such programmes helped them develop a team spirit, exhibit talent and skills during the competitions, which could help them to excel in their lives. He also announced that he will organize the Inter Medical Institutes Youth festival very soon.

The Youth festival consisted of various cultural and talent oriented performances, creative competitions and technical events. More than 600 students of participating Constituent and affiliated colleges to the University celebrate the spirit of life by performing in various events.

University Registrar, Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar presented a vote of thanks. MRSPTU, Director, Sports and Youth Welfare and chief coordinator. Mr. Bhupinder Pal Singh Dhot welcomed the guests and highlighted the cultural activities of the university. Prominent among those present include Skill Advisor to Punjab Government Shri Pardeep Kaura, Senior Technical Education officer Sardar Darshan Singh Sidhu, besides senior officials, Deans, Directors and faculty of the university attended the function.
