60-year-old Ajmer dargah caretaker gives triple talaq, booked

Ajmer, Aug 9, 2019 –

A 60-year-old Ajmer dargah caretaker has been booked by the Ajmer police for divorcing his 26-year-old wife by pronouncing triple talaq.

A case has been registered against the accused under section 498 A (cruelty to wife by husband or his relatives), section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act and section 406 (for breach of trust).

The accused would be arrested if investigations prima facie established the charges, said Manvendra Singh, SHO of the Dargah police staion. According to SS Rathore, circle officer, victim’s medical test has been conducted.

According to the victim, Saleemuddin Chishti (60) married her in 2017 while hiding that he was married five times earlier. He proposed me claiming that his wife was dead and he would care for me for life. After marriage, he took me to a rented accommodation.

However, he would frequently visit his own house, which he promised would be ours. Once I called him there, but his daughter picked up the phone. When I said, I am his wife calling, she said which wife? My husband immediately took the phone from her and started hurling abuses on me, she said

“He came back to me after 10 days and apologised. Later, his wives and children would visit the rented house and abuse and beat me. I went to police stations many times to register the complaint, but the police suppressed the case every time,” she alleged.

Recently, he along with his two other wives thrashed me, leaving me injured. “During the recent Ramzaan, he fractured my leg. I visited the police station again to lodge a complaint, but they did nothing,” she said.

When I became pregnant, he forced me to abort saying he had grownup children and it won’t suit him. He even forced me to borrow Rs 2 lakh from my brother and refused to return the money.

Two days ago, he pronounced triple talaq and asked me to leave the house. I demanded my ‘mehar’ but he refused. He should be punished under the new law, she said.  (Agency)
