6 Arrested for looting Cash Van in Gurugram, Haryana Police recovers Rs.70.5 lakh

In a major break-through, Haryana Police has nabbed six persons, who robbed over Rs 96 lakh cash at the gunpoint from the cash van of a company in Gurugram on April 18.

Sharing the information here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that police had also seized two cars, four mobile phones, one pistol, four live cartridges, and Rs70.5 lakh in cash from the possession of the arrested accused.

In a broad daylight robbery, Rs.96,32,931 was robbed from a van of a cash collection company by five armed persons on April 18. The accused threw chili powder into the eyes of the guard and the van driver, holding them hostage at gunpoint on busy Sohna road before fleeing with the money.

The arrested accused were identified as Neelkamal aka Kamal, Diwankar Arora aka Mannu, Kulbir and Jawed, all residents of Chhatarpur, New Delhi, Gulab of district Palwal and Jony, a resident of district Faridabad.

Following analysis of footage of the CCTV outside the showroom, police found that it was an Alto car with number plate UP 17 T 7809. This was found to be fake. 4 Crime teams were deputed on this case and started looking at similar older cases of looting of cash vans, ex-employees of the cash transportation company, and analysis of CCTV footage across Gurugram, following which, the original number of the car was obtained and it was found to be a Delhi number with address at Chatarpur.

The same night (Thursday/Friday intervening night) a team picked up Diwankar Arora @ Mannu r/o Chhatarpur, recovered the car, as well as the fake UP number plate. He was produced in court on Friday and police obtained remand till April 28. On interrogation, he revealed the names of the other 4 persons who had joined him in looting the car.

It was then found that Jeetu had left for UP while the other three had left for Vaishno Devi temple. Three teams of Crime Team Gurgaon Police left on Friday afternoon- one for Katra, one was stationed at Pathankot and the third one at the Shambhu border.

The team at Katra tracked the culprits to a hotel but the accused had checked out minutes before the team reached. They then alerted the teams at Shambhu and Pathankot. SP Ambala was also requested for assistance at the toll place. The three men were arrested last night at the Ambala toll plaza near Shambhu border.

Following preliminary interrogation, raids were conducted in the intervening night of Saturday/Sunday and Rs 70.50 lakh, 1 revolver and 4 cartridges, were recovered and two more accomplices, Kulbir and Javed, bothr/o Chhattarpur, were arrested. Javed was an ex-employee who worked as driver of the cash van of M/s S&IB Pvt. Ltd. some months ago. Kulbir had a Transport company in Chatarpur.

Javed, Kulbir and Nilkamal are childhood friends. Nilkamal had come in contact with Jeetu and Gulab in 2008/09 in Bhondsi Jail where all three were lodged in different cases. Nilkamal had lived as a tenant in Diwankar’s house.Johny is a cousin of Nilkamal.

These 7 people hatched the plan together in Kulbir’s office. They did a recce on April 7. Made an attempt on April 11 but did not follow through since Jeet had not turned up. Finally, on 18 April, they committed the crime. All 6 are on police remand till April 28. Jeetu has to be arrested and the remaining cash has to be recovered.
