5th Mega Job Fair brings 89,224 youth in Employment ambit – Amarinder to hand over Appointment Letters

The ongoing 5th Mega Job Fair continues to bring thousands of youth into the ambit of employment/self-employment under the Captain Amarinder Singh government’s Ghar Ghar Rozgar scheme, with 89,224 youth getting selected for employment, besides another 27,641 identified for self-employment and 6,727 for skill training, so far.

The appointment letters will be handed over by the Chief Minister on October 5 at Chamkaur Sahib, according to an official spokesperson, adding that the Fair would continue at more than 100 locations identified by the Employment General Department till September 30.

The spokesperson disclosed that of the 89,224 selected for jobs at the Fair, held across the state under the Ghar-Ghar Rozgar scheme, 33341 were in the `under 10 youth per villages’ programme, while 98 were persons with disabilities.

Of the 27641 youth chosen for self-employment, there were 18973 boys, 8651 girls and 17 persons with disabilities. They would further groom start-ups and entrepreneurship in the state, with the Government was facilitating self-employment opportunities. Similarly, as many as 6727 youth have been chosen for Skill Training Programme in this segment.

The number of youth selected in Amritsar district till September 26 was 3396, Barnala 2850, Bathinda 3657, Faridkot 3510, Ferozepur 4139, Fatehgarh Sahib 2205, Fazilka 4056, Gurdaspur 3231, Hoshiarpur 3606, Jalandhar 6831, Kapurthala 2625, Ludhiana 4931, Mansa 4706, Moga 2848, Sri Muktsar Sahib 1179, Pathankot 4096, Patiala 4905, Roopnagar 1713, Mohali 11289, Sangrur 5804, SBS Nagar 3571 and Tarn Taran 4076.

In self-employment category, the number of youth identified was 556, Barnala 175, Bathinda 56, Faridkot 387, Ferozepur 3527, Fatehgarh Sahib 391, Fazilka 1330, Gurdaspur 437, Hoshiarpur 2948, Jalandhar 956, Kapurthala 3790, Ludhiana 914, Mansa 416, Moga 443, Sri Muktsar Sahib 384, Pathankot 1277, Patiala 2703, Roopnagar 1373, Mohali 2167, Sangrur 748, SBS Nagar 2200 and Tarn Taran 463.

In the Skill Training segment, 124 youth had been chosen in Amritsar, 129 in Bathinda, 26 in Faridkot, 330 in Ferozepur, 208 in Fathegarh Sahib, 636 in Fazilka, 440 in Gurdaspur, 336 in Hoshiarpur, 711 in Jalandhar, 794 in Kapurthala, 412 in Ludhiana, 99 in Mansa, 437 in Moga, 257 in Sri Muktsar Sahib, 88 in Pathankot, 445 in Patiala, 297 in Roopnagar, 392 in Mohali, 477 in Sangrur, 43 in SBS Nagar and 46 in Tarn Taran.

The 5th Mega Job fair, which took off on September 9, was aimed at providing 2.10 lakh jobs in the private sector, involving nearly 2000 companies besides facilitating loans to youngsters for self-employment ventures.

In previous job fairs, held till February 2019, 55000 jobs were given to unemployed youth. The packages offered to the youth range upto Rs. 10 lakh per annum, the spokesperson further said, adding that the number of applications being received by the department was increasing day by day.

The Punjab Government had launched “Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission” to empower every unemployed youth with employment (self or wage) as per his/her eligibility. The programme also involves a dedicated component to skill the unskilled, in order to make them employable.

Concerted efforts by the Department of Employment Generation & Training have so far resulted in facilitating unemployed youth in getting self or wage employment at the rate of more than a 1000/day.
