51 Arrested under weeklong Anti-Drugs drive: SSP Navjot Singh Mahal

In a strong warning to those indulged in drugs, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal asserted that these people would be dealt with heavy hand as the District Police have tighten noose on drug peddlers in the district.

The District Police launched a special drive against drugs on February 25 to March 3, said Mahal adding that as many as 47 cases were registered with the arrest of 51 persons besides seizure of heroine, charas, psychotropic substances, intoxicant powder etc.

He said that Police in association with the general public also organised awareness meetings at different places to apprise the people about the effects of this menace on human health and society.

He said that the police have carried out search operations at 10 places including Bikrampura Mohalla, Chandigarh Mohalla in Tanda and Deenowal in Garshankar etc.

Mahal also stated that during Special Drive against drugs the police have arrested 51 drug peddlers and recovered 161-gm heroin, 816-gm intoxicant powder, 30-gm charas, 1847 intoxicant tablets, 520 intoxicant capsule and drug money worth Rs 1 lakh.

He also mentioned that police have also arrested four Proclaimed Offenders (POs) wanted in the cases of NDPS Act. He further mentioned that the police have also confiscated 7000 Litre lahan and 6750ML illicit liquor and filed cases.

The SSP pointed out that police have been keeping a close vigil on the activities of the drug peddlers who are out on bail to tighten the noose around the menace. He said that no one involved in the drug peddling would be spared and strict action would be taken against them.
