Five players of from Punjab have been selected to represent the 5×5 & 3×3 Asian Games Men & Women scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from 23rd September– 08th, October 2023. The players are Anmolpreet Kaur, Manmeet Kaur & Yashneet Kaur (Women) while in Men section players are Princepal Singh & Sahaij Pratap Singh Sekhon.
Princepal Singh & Sahaij Pratap Singh Sekhon have been selected both for playing 3×3 format matches. Principal, who also played NBA was first intercepted by Coach Jaipal Singh who taught him basics and then he was groomed at LBA along with Chief Coach Rajinder Singh at Ludhiana. Sahaij Pratap Singh Sekhon is from Mohali and has just joined at LBA Ludhiana and studies in SCD Govt. College Ludhiana.
Sahaij shifted to Punjab from Chandigarh. In women’s section, Anmolpreet Kaur & Manmeet Kaur who will play 5×5 format Basketball have been coached by Late Devinder Singh Dhindsa and Ms. Saloni at the LBA centre. While Yashneet Kaur who plays 3×3 format was inspired & coached by her father Sukhhdev Singh who is a Basketball Coach at RCF Kapurthla.
PBA senior officials President including president R S Gill (DGP Pb. -Retd), Teja Singh Dhaliwal , Gen Sec , Yurinder Singh Hayer IPS Retd.-Sr VP PBA , M S Bhullar SSP VP ,JP Singh PCS Retd VP PBA and Dr Mukti Gill have termed the selection a proud moment for Punjab.Basketball Arjuna Awradees Sajan Singh Cheema, Parminder Singh Bhandal and Prof. Suman Sharma have also congratulated the players and coaches .
District Basketball Association executives Sumesh Chaddha & Brij Goyal while commending efforts of coaches said that Punjab Govt. should retain trained players in Punjab itself by giving them suitable jobs in time as trained players later shift elsewhere.
