4th day of SAD protest in Chandigarh – Guv urged to dismiss Congress govt over Hooch Tragedy

Chandigarh, August 10, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said with increasing reports as well as eye witness accounts of hooch tragedy victims implicating Congress legislators and the direct link between the liquor mafia being established with the Congress high command, State Governor VP Singh Badnore should not commit any delay in dismissing the Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress government.

Talking to newsmen after leading a protest march to the Raj Bhawan and courting arrest, SAD legislative wing leader Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said the Congress government should be dismissed immediately as the chief minister had refused to take action against Congress legislators who were accused of distributing poisonous liquor in the three districts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Batala which led to 137 deaths.

“The chief minister’s failure in taking action against the Congress legislators and charges that the liquor mafia had paid Rs 2,000 crore to the Congress high command indicate that the entire Congress party is hand in glove with the liquor and sand mafia and that the Congress government in Punjab is not capable of holding a free and fair inquiry in this matter”.

Mr Sharanjit Dhillon said only a CBI inquiry could bring out the truth in the case and result in putting Congress legislators responsible for this ghastly crime behind bars. “Stressing the urgent need for a CBI inquiry, Mr Dhillon said earlier in the case of the death of actor Sushant Rajput the people had demanded a CBI inquiry and the same had already started.

“In this case more than a 100 Sushants’ have died. Poor and dalit families have lost their bread winners. A CBI inquiry is necessary to bring out the truth in the case”, he added.

The SAD leader also urged the Governor to order another inquiry into the proliferation of illicit liquor and drugs in the State. He said the situation was such that liquor and drugs were now being home delivered. He said the liquor and drug mafia had no fear of the police or law enforcement agencies because they were indulging in these activities in league with Congressmen. He said the probe should not only nab those spreading this poison in the society, but should also go after those patronizing it.

He said the Enforcement Directorate help should also be taken to analyze the increase in wealth of Congress leaders accused of patronizing the liquor and drug mafia.

Mr Sharanjit Dhillon announced that the SAD would continue to protest to ensure justice to the 137 persons who had lost their lives in the hooch tragedy. He also demanded that the compensation amount for victim families be raised to Rs 25 lakh and that each victim family should be offered a government job.

Meanwhile dharna coordinator and party Spokesman Charanjit Singh Brar said the party would intensify its stir to ensure justice to the hooch tragedy victims and would announce its next plan of action soon.
