4 Punjab Parties resolve to fight back deadly Farm Ordinances, remind Amarinder of his promise

Chandigarh, July 29, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Four political parties of the state expressing solidarity over the issue of three controversial anti-farm and anti-Punjab ordinances passed by the Modi government at the Center under the guise of agrarian reforms, went gun blazing against Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh backtracking on his promise made at the all-party meeting.

Addressing the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM) took him upfront, asking why his government state had not taken necessary steps against the anti-agriculture ordinances being forced on the beleaguered farmers of the state, saying the Modi government had already issued notifications to enforce the dictatorial ordinances.

AAP state unit president and MP Bhagwant Mann, BSP state president Jasbir Singh Gadri, CPI state secretary Bant Singh Brar and CPM state secretary Sukhminder Singh Sekhon on Wednesday in a joint statement issued here on Wednesday reminded Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh about the all-party meeting and his dragging feet on the promise given to members to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the three controversial Agriculture Ordinances.

They questioned as to how he (the Chief Minister) could indulge in dilly-dallying on a such a sensitive issue and leave the same unresolved midway, saying that all the major political parties in Punjab, farmers and labor organizations, agricultural and economic experts and the intelligentsia, had been protesting against the tall order.

The leaders of all the four political parties protested against the Punjab government’s highhandedness and registering cases against those protesting against the so-called anti-agriculture ordinances, including political party leaders, workers-volunteers and farmers-workers, union leaders and activists on the pretext of jumping the Corona Epidemic stipulations.

Taking serious note of the cases being registered against them in Punjab, the leaders questioned Chief Minister to clarify whether he (Capt.) was siding with the people, especially farmers, of Punjab over the ordinances or was under pressure from certain patronised private corporate houses, like the Badals, Abanis and Adanis, kneeling in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to political compulsions?

The leaders of these prominent political parties have demanded that the Chief Minister should initiate immediate steps to dismiss the cases registered against the farmers or socio-political leaders protesting against the deadly ordinances, adding that he should push for an all-party meeting with Prime Minister and take the initiative to repeal the Central Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020, as also the three ordinances through a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
