1770 Students Get Degrees at Khalsa College’s 115th Convocation

At least 1770 students of M.Phil, Post-graduate and Graduate classes today received degrees at 115th Annual Convocation of historic Khalsa College today. Punjabi University, Patiala, Vice-Chancellor and renowned physicist Prof Arvind who distributed the degrees, said the education was tool to transform the society and take the country to the newer heights.

Quoting legendry Nelson Mandela, Prof Arvind emphasized on the quality education at grass root and higher level while recalling Khalsa College’s contribution to the field of education. “The nation that focuses on education progresses in all spheres. This is evident from the human history itself. For enabling the country to reach the top comity of nations, we have to focus on quality education”, said he.

Prof Arvind who studied at Khalsa College in pre-engineering in 1980s recalled the days he spent here as student while the college authorities felt honoured to have their alumni as the chief guest at the Convocation.

Earlier Khalsa College Governing Council President Satyajit Singh Majithia called upon the autonomy of colleges and universities for maintaining high standards of education. “The educational institutions must work in an autonomous atmosphere. We need to decentralize power centres and delegates the authorities to the lower levels to achieve success”, said Majithia who presided over the academic function.

KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina called upon the students to contribute for the environment protection as we are playing havoc with the fragile ecology of the planet Earth. He congratulated the students for attaining degrees and medals.

Principal Dr. Mehal Singh read the progress report of the college citing the achievements of students in academics, cultural activities and sports. He said that under the able leadership of KCGC, the College had progressed beyond means and students excelled in annual examinations as well as in sports activities. He also congratulated the students who got degrees, medals and meritorious certificates today.
