The city beautiful is all set to host a mega Bridge event from 23rd to 25th 2025. The National and International level Bridge players of the country are expected to participate in the 13th Steel Strips Group National Open Bridge Championship to be organized by the Punjab Bridge Association and sponsored by the Steel Strips Group.
The Ex Chief Secretary Punjab and Chairman of the Tournament Committee and President of the Punjab Bridge Association (PBA) K.R. Lakhanpal, divulged that more than 200 players from 40 teams across the country would participate in the National Championship including 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games Silver medalist and National champion players including women and young players.
Disclosing further, Mr. Lakhanpal said that this is the 13th National level event to be held at Chandigarh and association is encouraged by the increased participation of the top bridge talent from across the country.
The total prize money is Rs. 8 lakhs and the competitions would be held under two categories i.e. pair and team. This year the organizers have created a special category of prizes for women and young players to encourage their participation. The technical aspects of the tournament are being supervised by the renowned Bridge Technical Expert of India TC Pant.
Mr. Lakhanpal further said that Contract Bridge is a strategic, trick taking card game played with a standard 52 card deck. Bridge, as recognized by the International Olympic Committee is also part of Asian Games since 2018. In India, the Bridge Federation of India (BFI) since 1952 handles the affairs of the game which continues to gain recognition as the one nurturing cognitive ability and social interaction.
Vice Chairman of Tournament Committee and Vice President of the PBA Viswajeet Khanna said that we’re partnering with the National Bridge Federation for the last 2 decades for the promotion of Bridge in this region and across the country. He said that this championship is the perfect platform for budding players in this innovative sport which involves utilizing the analytical faculties of the mind to the optimum extent.
Members of Organising Committee Krishan Goyal, JS Bahl, Arvind Gupta and Durgesh Mishra assured full arrangement and hospitality of visiting players and distinguished guests.
