130 unlicensed Arms seized in Haryana after model of conduct: ADGP Navdeep Singh Virk

In order to ensure smooth and peaceful polling, Haryana Police have so far seized 130 unlicensed arms and 110 cartridges since September 21 when the model code of conduct for General Elections to Haryana Vidhan Sabha-2019 came into force.

While stating this here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mr Navdeep Singh Virk said that owners of licensed weapons have also started depositing their firearms with the police before the election.

As per official figure, a total of 1,10,901 licensed arms have been deposited in different Police Stations till October 3, 2019. In addition, 11 licensed arms have been cancelled and one impounded for violating the instructions of Election Commission of India.

Mr Virk said that Director General of Police, Mr Manoj Yadava constantly reviewing the security arrangements with regard to elections with district police chiefs. Police have stepped up measures to ensure smooth conduct of elections in the State.

On the security front, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has provided 120 companies of Central paramilitary forces to ensure full proof security arrangement before and after the polling day.

As part of the confidence-building measures among voters, the Police and central forces started conducting flag march in sensitive areas across the State. The security forces have also stepped up vigil around the polling stations identified ‘critical’ and ‘vulnerable’.

Prompt and effective action would be taken against anybody who tries to disrupt the polling process, he added.

He urged the people to enthusiastically participate in the upcoming festival of democracy and exercise their right to cast vote without any fear as the Haryana Police has made elaborate arrangements for free, fair and peaceful conduct of general elections, polling for which will be held on October 21, 2019.
