10K BJP leaders to attend national council meet in March

New Delhi, Feb 14, 2020-

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to hold its two-day National Council meeting in March before Holi. More than 10,000 leaders and workers from across the country are expected to participate in the meeting, sources told.

Although the date and the place of the meeting have not been decided yet but party sources said that the meeting will be held in Delhi like last year.

The sources also said that this year it might be organised at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium instead of Ramlila Maidan.

The National Council meeting is held once every year where the top leadership of the party share the achievements recorded in a year with the organisation. At the same time, decisions are taken on various issues.

J.P. Nadda’s appointment as the National President of the party will also be approved at the meeting.

The sources said that Nadda will also finalise the national office bearers in the meeting.

The meeting was slated to be held between January and February, but due to the Delhi Assembly elections it couldn’t take place. It will now be held in March, reliable sources in the BJP told.

A senior BJP leader told that the meeting could take place before Holi while another said that it will be held by March 20.

Last year, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the National Council meeting was held in Delhi on January 11 and 12. Earlier a limited number of leaders used to attend the meeting but the then BJP National President Amit Shah increased the number of leaders for the meeting.

The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the current president, former president, chief ministers of party-ruled states, deputy chief ministers, ministers, all MPs, MLAs, national executive members, state executive members, district heads and district general secretaries.

A senior BJP leader told, “Although the location and date for the National Council Meeting has not been decided yet but it is scheduled to be held in March. It is more convenient to have such a big meeting in Delhi. Ramlila Maidan and Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium are the two options. While tents are required at Ramlila Ground, there will be no such requirement in the stadium. Possibly, the meeting could be organised in the stadium this time.”  (Agency)
