Hamid Mir, the Editor of Pakistan's prominent news channel Geo TV was today shot at by unidentified assailants. He has been injured seriously and rushed to a private hospital but is said to be out of danger.
Hamid Mir, renowned anchorperson, was attacked when he was on his way to Geo TV Office in Karachi from Karachi Airport.
The assailants who were on two bikes fired on the car he was travelling in. Two bullets hit Hamid Mir on the lower part of his body.
Four gunmen riding on two motorcycles opened fire on Hamid Mir's car a few kilometers away from the airport police station, The News International reported.
The PR department of Geo TV said three surgeons and two other doctors were attending on an injured Meer and there was no information about his condition as such.
Hamid Mir is a much celebrated journalist awarded with Pakistan's highest civil Award.
A bold journalist, he had interviewed Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan. He had also covered Iran War and was there in Beirut amidst the bombardment to cover it for his channel.
He was already on the hit list of disgruntled elements. A bomb was planted in his vehicle in November 2011 but timely detection of the bomb had saved Hamid Mir then.
