An engineering girl student of the Sharda University here allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of her hostel early Monday.
Shilpi Verma, 24, a student of B.Tech third year, was found lying in a pool of blood on the ground of the girls' hostel early Monday. She was rushed to the Sharda Hospital where she was declared dead, police said.
"We have found during preliminary investigation that it is a case of suicide. Shilpi committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the girls' hostel," Senior Superintendent of Police (Gautam Budh Nagar) Praveen Kumar Mishra said.
"The reasons for her taking the extreme step are very personal and will not be in the interest of the deceased person's public image," he said.
According to police, Shilpi along with her friends was partying in her room on the first floor. They, however, shifted the party venue around 4 a.m. to a room on the fifth floor after some students of adjoining rooms objected to their late night party. Later, Shilpi was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
Her father Indra Pal Verma, a resident of Yamuna Vihar in Delhi, has, however, alleged that his daughter was murdered. He said Shilpi was not of such temperament that she would commit suicide.
