4 Medical Colleges to be operational in next 2 years in Punjab: Balbir Singh Sidhu

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu on Wednesday said that with the commencement of the four medical colleges in the state in the next two years, Punjab would become a hub of medical education.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating a Charitable MLT Physiomed Centre in Bilga town, the Cabinet Minister said that the work on Government Medical Colleges in Mohali, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur districts have already been initiated and these colleges will be operational in the next two years.

He said that the classes at Mohali College would be started in the next few months and meanwhile, the lands of the remaining three colleges have been settled and project reports have also been prepared. He said that there would not any shortage of doctors in the coming years.

Mr Sidhu said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is committed to ensuring providing world-class health infrastructure and facilities to the people here.

He said that the state government has launched Ayushman Bharat-Sarbat Sehat Beema Yojna for the poor people.

The Minister disclosed that 470 hospitals of the state have already been empanelled and 1.05 lakh people have got treatment under the scheme besides the payments to the hospitals have also been cleared within one month.

The Minister said that the state government is already in process to open 3000 Health and Wellness Centres (HWC) by upgrading sub-centres where the trained nursing officers will work as Community Health Officers and provide the best health facilities to all.

He also urged the NRIs to become an active partner for developing health infrastructure in the state.

Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu said that since ages, the Medical profession has been considered a very pious profession and the all must uphold this dignity.

The minister accompanied by Mr Jagbir Singh Brar, Chairman of the Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation Ltd ( PWRMDC) also visited the Bilga Primary Health Centre and checked the medical facilities being offered there. He also interacted with the patients and assured them to start the X-ray facility here soon.

Mr Sidhu also assured fulsome support to the Member Provincial Parliament Ontario Canada Mrs Nina Tangri and Mr Ashwani Tangri for their planning to set up a multispecialty hospital in the state.

On the occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Gurmeet Kaur Duggal, District Immunization Officer Dr Seema, Epidemiologist Dr Satish Kumar and others were present.
